Educational Courses
New Directions - A course for students and their parents.
Cost: $75
A one night a week for four weeks, 7:00-9:00 evening course designed to develop an awareness of all aspects of chemical abuse, and to equip students and their parents with the understanding and skills to successfully navigate the high risk years of adolescence. Every teenager and parent can benefit from the educational presentations and peer discussion groups which are a part of each session. It is our hope that we have created a wonderful course that will enable each participant to make informed decisions about alcohol and other drugs based on the most current information. One parent commented that, “This course provided an opportunity to change my thinking. Its emphasis on
the hard realities got my attention.” If you have a teenager, you need this course.
How To Cope - A course for families and friends of the substance abuser.
Cost: $75 for two people
This amazing course, one of C.A.R.E.’s best kept secrets, is designed to help those close to the alcohol or drug abuser. Even if the alcohol and drug abuser chooses to continue to drink and/or use, the people around him/her can stop being manipulated and controlled. They can shift the consequences of the drinking and drug use back to the chemically dependent person and begin to build a healthy life-style for themselves and their family members. No matter where a person is in the healing process, this course can help them move to the next stage. The positive feedback we have had from those taking this course over the years, has been heartwarming. If you have a loved one or family member who may be chemically dependent, you don’t want to miss this opportunity to be a part of this group. Comment from a past participant: “This course saved my life. This was the first positive thing for me in months.”

Tip: Plant seeds with unanswered questions. Ask your teens, BUT DO NOT ANSWER questions like the following:
1. I wonder if the types of grades you are getting right now are going to make it easier or harder for you to do what you really enjoy in life.
2. I wonder if the types of friends you are spending time with are making it easier or harder for you to stay out of trouble.
